Abstract	A collection of pertinent data on baseline trends in higher education is presented that offers comparisons over time, with some data traced back to the 1930s. Eight topical sections are: (1) demographic and economic data (e.g., occupation projections to 2000 and median income of families and individuals); (2) enrollment data (e.g., enrollment by level of study and residence and migration by state); (3) data on institutions (e.g., institutions of higher education by control and percentage distribution of institutions by size and region); (4) finance data (e.g., current fund revenue of instutions of higher education and voluntary support of institutions of higher education); (5) data on faculty and staff (e.g., characteristics of faculty by institutional type and women college presidents by type and control of institution); (6) student data (e.g., average student charges by type and control of institution and education debts of recent college graduates); (7) earned degrees data (e.g., percentage of earned doctorates awarded to women by field of study and degrees conferred in business and management); and (8) student aid data (e.g., costs of attendance and income and number of recipients of selected federal student aid programs). A guide to data sources is included. Tables are based on the latest available data from over 40 sources. There are more than 25 new tables in this edition, many of which show data by race/ethnicity and on institutional finance in current and constant dollars.
